Performance Counselling

Almost all performers face motivational issues, slumps, injuries, personality differences with trainers,coaches or teammates, problems with parents, and other mental and emotional challenges during their career.

Common challenges include:

• Not motivated to train hard and are easily distracted
• Lack of self confidence and negative thought patterns
• Lack of improvement in training
• Poor results in competition
• Trouble sleeping, not eating well and feeling tired or burned out
• Problems sorting out parental support
• Fear of injury or public embarrassment and pressure from peers
• Uncomfortable relationships with trainers, coaches or teammates

The relationship between the performer, coach and parent is one of the great triangulations in life. Working one-on-one with performers, coaches, and parents, Dave helps individuals understand and overcome the challenges they are facing. All conversations are confidential and long-term solutions are sought by working to understand the contributing factors influencing performance and enjoyment. Once the counselling process gets started, higher performance and greater enjoyment of training and competition are usually quick to return and often systems can be put into place to help keep things on track permanently.

Dave has had a great deal of success increasing both performance and enjoyment levels in his clients. After completing an initial assessment, a process and program will be set up to cater to the individual’s unique needs. Dave works with clients in a number of settings including in his own office, in athletes own homes, over the telephone, and in live-action setting of training and performing.
